Fitting and cleaning

Flotex should be fitted in the home by a professional installer (your local retailer will be able to provide details of installers), or by a competent handyman.

The Subfloor

The success of any installation can be affected by the condition of the subfloor, therefore, ensure that the floor is smooth, level, clean, permanently dry and of sound construction.

Flotex should not be fitted on top of existing textile, vinyl or cork floorcoverings. Underlay should not be fitted with Flotex.Tongued and grooved floorboards should be overlaid with plywood or hardboard appropriately fixed.

Installation

Always ensure that there is sufficient Flotex to finish the job. Allow for the pattern match. Plan to lay the Flotex with the arrows towards the main natural light source. For economy purposes Flotex may be laid at 90* to the main natural light source but never away.

  1. Flotex can be fitted using PMR/Antiplas double-sided adhesive tape. Spray adhesive and carpet adhesive at joins and perimeter are not recommended. If you are adding a border, or a feature inlay to the floor, Flotex should be fully adhered using the recommended adhesive.
  2. All cuts must be from the same dye and sublot i.e. numbers on reverse should be the same.
  3. Double check that the material will not be laid with the arrows away from the main natural light source. Cut to approximate size and lay out the material allowing approximately 5cms around the perimeter.
  4. Check for any obvious defects in the material.
  5. Adhere with double sided tape (tape either side of the joins and around the perimeter). Ensure that the material is lying flat and there is not air trapped beneathe the Flotex.
  6. Use threshold strips to prevent kicking up at exposed edges.
  7. In areas subjected to movement of heavy objects eg washer, cookers, fridges, etc, use extra tape to prevent the Flotex from rucking.
  8. Trimming can be carried out by using a utility knife (Stanley Knife) or for long straight runs an araseur (edge trimmer) may be used. A hooked blade is more effective when cutting with the pile uppermost.
  9. Finally, check the whole area to ensure that there is not tight fitting.
